And that’s how it ended, the first gathering of the Houston Chapter of The
Lone Star Saab Club.

In fairness, the comment was in response to Jacek’s well meaning taunt of
“We hate bicycles!” directed towards a young couple riding their bicycle
through our impromptu photo shoot at the end of the meet.

Sporadic rainfall marked the initial meeting at 1:00 pm on July 29th. Initially
things were scheduled to take-place at the Velvet Melvin but upon arrival
we discovered that the Melvin didn’t open until 3:00 pm on Sundays.

Undeterred the group, consisting of Abe Covello, Michael Becker, Eric
Whitten, Jacek Walasek, and Drew Weaver traveled the short distance to
Little Woodrow’s where we commandeered two tables and set about the
business of getting to know one another.

Discussion ranged from 'Why Saabs are better than BMWs' to what the
members do for a living when they’re not driving around in their Swedish
steel.

Enthusiasm was high, and after talking and getting to know one another
festivities moved into the parking area where we once again looked-over
each others cars and discussed various attributes and modifications. Abe
and Drew volunteered their keys and the others took their cars for short
test drives around the block.

After that, Abe suggested moving to a more picturesque area on Sabine
Street downtown. By then the weather was nice and the rain was mostly
over, and the group enjoyed a quick spirited cruise down Allen Parkway to
the photo shoot. No one got arrested!

All in all, the first meet was a smash hit success! We hope to welcome and
meet more members at the next gathering!
